About Hesperos

We started because families deserved a quieter kind of support.

Hesperos grew from a simple observation: when households face change, the conversations and paperwork that matter most are often left to the side, unaddressed, because nobody knows quite where to begin.

Our Story

How Hesperos came to be

Hesperos opened its doors in Chiang Mai in 2019 after the founding team — a small group of people with backgrounds in adult education and community facilitation — noticed a gap that no other local service was filling. Families arriving at moments of transition, whether navigating an estate, a household move, or simply a long-deferred conversation about who holds which documents, often had no one to sit with them as they sorted through the practical and the personal.

The name comes from the Greek word for the evening star — a fixed point of reference that appears when the day's confusion settles. That image felt right: Hesperos exists to be a steady, unhurried presence, not to rush anything toward a conclusion, but to help families see their own situation a little more clearly.

From the outset, the service was designed around one principle: we share information and communication tools only. We are not advisors. We do not carry professional licences in law, finance, or healthcare. What we do is create the kind of thoughtful, structured space that helps people find the words they need and the order they are looking for.

Since 2019, Hesperos has worked with hundreds of households across Chiang Mai and the surrounding region, always keeping sessions small, printed materials practical, and follow-up referrals honest.

Our Mission

To give families the information, structure, and communication tools they need to move through change with less confusion and more shared understanding — at a pace that suits them, and with no pressure toward any particular outcome.

Our Values

  • Calm before completeness. A session that leaves the family feeling steadier is worth more than one that rushes through every item.
  • Honesty about scope. We refer openly to other professionals whenever a question falls outside what we do.
  • Plain language. No jargon, no forms of wording that obscure what we mean or what you need to do.
  • Kindness in all directions. Toward families, toward each other, and toward the difficulty of the situations people bring to us.

How We Work

Standards we hold ourselves to

Clear scope of service

We state clearly at the start of every engagement what we do and what we do not do. Families are never left wondering whether they are receiving professional advice — they are not.

Confidentiality

Personal details shared during sessions remain strictly between the family and Hesperos. We do not share information with third parties except those the family explicitly asks us to contact on their behalf.

Written summaries for every session

Every service concludes with a printed document. Families leave with something tangible that reflects what was covered, not just a memory of a conversation.

Honest referral network

When families need legal, financial, or healthcare input, we refer them to vetted, independent practitioners. We receive no commission from referrals.

Small group sizes

Workshops and sessions are kept deliberately small so every participant can be heard and receive attention. We do not run large group events.

Continuing facilitator development

Our team regularly attends training in facilitation, active listening, and family systems communication to maintain the quality and sensitivity our work requires.

Context & Approach

Family communication support in Chiang Mai

Northern Thailand has a long tradition of extended family households working through shared decisions together. In Chiang Mai that tradition meets a growing international and expat community, bilingual households, and the practical realities of families stretched across different countries and time zones. The conversations that matter — about property, ageing parents, shared finances, future arrangements — do not become easier just because they are familiar territory for other cultures.

Hesperos works specifically in this intersection. Sessions are conducted in English, with accommodation for mixed-language households, and our approach to paperwork takes Thai administrative contexts into account when pointing families toward relevant official sources. We do not replace Thai legal or financial services. We help families arrive at those conversations better prepared.

Our Conversation Mapping format draws on established communication frameworks adapted for family rather than workplace settings. The Paperwork Sorting Workshop was designed around the actual documents Thai and international households commonly hold, with a checklist structure tested across dozens of workshop groups since 2019. The Family Arrangements Package brings both together into a structured multi-session process that ends with a written summary the whole household can follow.

We work with families from a wide range of backgrounds: Thai families preparing for a significant change, expat households sorting through the overlapping requirements of two or more countries, mixed-nationality couples, and adult children helping older parents work through what happens next. The common thread is a desire for clarity and a preference for working at their own pace, without pressure.
